In this digital world, the youngsters are migrating from TV to digital platforms, it has become their primary source of entertainment now. YouTube, Amazon Prime, and Netflix are some of the entertainment platforms available today. Web series-watching population has grown rapidly and that’s the reason popular Hindi films actors and production houses are venturing into this field. 2017 was really exciting for web series lovers and it can be guaranteed that 2018 will be even much more fun.

Why Should One Watch Web Series?

Unlike movies, web series explore various topics and also day-to-day subjects that are still untouched by Bollywood. Since the episodes are generally shorter in duration, they don’t demand a serious commitment from viewers in terms of time. As we wait for the episodes with bated breath, they have grown on us. Then there are international streaming services that drop all the episodes, at once for us to devour. Indian web series may not be as intense as the international ones yet, but some of them are boldly going forth.

Some of the famous Indian web series that must be there in your watch list in 2018 are listed below:

1. Sacred Games – Netflix

Sacred Games is the first Indian Netflix original web series that will be made in India and is based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 thriller novel of the same name. Set to release on 6th July, 2018, the show will be produced in partnership with Phantom Films, and will feature eight hour-long episodes directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane – co-founders of Phantom Films. These filmmakers will invest their creative energies in eight, hour-long episodes with Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead roles. It will be bankrolled by Kashyap, Motwane, Vikas Bahl and Madhu Mantena’s Phantom Films. However, its release date is yet to be announced.

2. Ghoul- Netflix

From the makers of Insidious, casting the omnipresent Radhika Apte, Ghoul is a chilling series about a prisoner who arrives at a remote military interrogation center and turns the tables on his interrogators, exposing their most shameful secrets. Ghould is a short mini-series but it can definitely scare to your core.

3. Breathe – Amazon Prime

Written and directed by Mayank Sharma, who previously assisted on Table No. 21 and Chashme Baddoor, Breathe happens to be Amazon’s first trilingual venture, releasing simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Starring R. Madhavan, Amit Sadh, Hrishikesh Joshi, Nina Kulkarni, and Sapna Pabbi; Breathe is touted to be a thriller that explores the lives of ordinary men faced with extraordinary circumstances. The series follows a series of murders of organ donors. Kabir (Sadh), a brilliant officer of the Crime Branch, starts putting pieces together of seemingly unconnected deaths that lead him to an unlikely suspect – the affable Danny Mascarenhas (Madhavan).

4. Inside Edge – Amazon Prime Video

The Name of the Executive Producers of this series is enough to know about the standard of its content. Farhan Akhtar along with Ritesh Sidhwani have delivered an Marvelous and thrilling piece to its audience. Roped in Actors like Richa Chadha, Vivek Oberoi  have taken the show to another level. Exposing the Inside Jobs and Unseen and Unspoken Masterminds behind the Game of Cricket is what Inside Edge was all about.The selfishness and the use of Money, Power and Sex as a means to end have been spectacularly delivered. With the amazing reviews, it was quite of a good news for all the fans to the announcement of its second season. There have been speculations that the Indian Cricketer Yuvraj Singh is to be starred in the second season of the series too.

5. The Test Case – Alt Balaji

The Test Case, a 2017 Hindi web series, is directed by Vinay Waikul and Nagesh Kukunoor and produced by Endemol Shine India for the ALT Balaji App. It stars Nimrat Kaur, Atul Kulkarni, Rahul Dev, Manit Joura, and Akshay Oberoi in lead roles along with Juhi Chawla in a guest appearance. The pilot episode is already available for streaming on the ALT Balaji App and its associated websites. Recently, the producer of the show has announced that shooting for the remaining nine episodes has been completed and can be streamed from 26th January 2018. This web series is about the main character training to be the first woman test case in a combat role, within the Indian Army.
