India’s hospitality behemoth and a unicorn startup OYO, on Friday (May 1, 2020) announced that the company has appointed Troy Alstead, the former COO of Starbucks as an independent director.
The news came as a development amid the COVID-19 crisis while OYO is trying to break through losses and criticism for employee layoffs.
The company in a statement highlighted that Troy will assume a supervisory role to provide guidance to the founder, Ritesh Agarwal and the management on key business decisions.
Commenting on the development, Ritesh Agarwal in a statement quoted,
“Troy brings tremendous operating and governance experience that will help us continue delivering on our mission to help millions of middle-income people around the world gain access to quality accommodations at different price points,”
Sharing his side of view, Alstead said,
“OYO, with its unique asset-light business model and strong data capabilities, is creating something entirely new for more than 3 billion middle-income travellers and city dwellers who need accommodations that meet their standards and also their budgets,”
