Fans who are heavily invested in the JRPG genre are probably already familiar with Atlus, the legendary game publisher responsible for the Shin Megami Tensei series and all of its spinoffs. One of those spinoffs, Devil Summoner, is getting a brand-new entry in the form of Soul Hackers 2. While Devil Summoner might not be as popular or recognizable as Persona, that doesn’t mean that fans shouldn’t be looking forward to this new game.
While the title might have you believe this is the second entry in the series, Soul Hackers 2 is actually the fifth (!!!) game in the Devil Summoner series, which started way back in 1995 on the Sega Saturn. The game was a marvel back then, and every game since has expanded that game’s mechanics and story in incredible ways. Will Soul Hackers 2 be a worthy entry in the series? We’ll know soon enough, but until the game is available, let’s take a look at some of the features you can expect when the game finally drops on Game Camp.
Visual Delights
If there’s one thing synonymous with all Atlus games, it’s an oozing, extravagant sense of style. Soul Hackers 2 maintains that reputation with its oversaturated colours and bright neon lights. Even the highly detailed character models elevate the anime aesthetic that is used throughout the game. Many games and franchises use the cyberpunk theme, and it might be starting to feel old, but Soul Hackers 2 creates a cyberpunk world that feels fresh and new.
But, you won’t just be exploring a glitzy, cyberpunk version of Japan. You’ll also enter a digital realm where demons roam free to engage in awesome turn-based battles. When reality melts away and the combat theme music starts up, you’ll know that Soul Hackers 2 means business. Also, Soul Hackers 2 is the first game Atlus has developed natively for PS5, so it uses the horsepower offered by Sony’s newest console to its full potential.
Summoners Supreme
In Soul Hackers 2, a digital hivemind named Aion has collected enough data to determine that humanity is on the brink of disaster. To fight back against the apocalypse, Aion created two agents with physical forms to fight in its name. These agents are Ringo and Figue. Together, these two awesome stylish agents will become devil summoners, collecting and fusing demons who hide just beyond the veil to do battle across Japan and hopefully find a way to prevent annihilation.
The demon collection and fusion that is at the core of every Shin Megami Tensei game is going to take up the majority of your time in Soul Hackers 2. You can add demons to your team by force, or you can engage in a negotiation to convince them to come peacefully. Besides the demons, you’ll also encounter other devil summoners who will join your party. You can forge deep bonds with these characters by diving into their memories and experiencing difficult times in their lives.
Conclusion
Devil Summoner’s continued success and popularity seem to be assured in Soul Hackers 2. It has all of the makings of an incredible JRPG: amazing characters, engaging combat, and an enthralling story that will keep you glued to your console. The game will be available soon, so keep an eye on GameCamp.com to make sure you pick it up for its lowest price.
