The world’s richest man and the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, Elon Musk has recently come up with mockery around the viral Metaverse concept. The commentary came as an answer to a question during Musk’s interview with the popular YouTube channel ‘The Babylon Bee’.
“I don’t know if I necessarily buy into this Metaverse stuff, although people talk to me a lot about it and Web 3” – said Musk
“Sure you can put a TV on your nose. I’m not sure that makes you in the Metaverse… It’s like weird like… when I grew up it’s like don’t sit too close to the TV it’s going to ruin your eyesight…,”
Speaking of VR goggles and its unfavourable effects, Musk added,
“Have you tried these games?… It gives you motion sickness if you try to walk around like you can do a video game on your sort of computer console or whatever and you can be in a like first person game… and move rapidly and not get set motion sickness but if you try to do that in a beat with VR goggles you get motion sickness, it’s like weird so you have to like teleport around with…,”
“I don’t see someone strapping a friggin screen to their face all day and not wanting to ever leave there seems no way I mean… it gets uncomfortable to have this thing strapped to your head the whole time,”
Elon affirmed that he might look like a fad dismissing the internet back in 95, but he still doesn’t see a future in the Metaverse,
“I’m like one of those people who was like dismissing the internet… I think we are far away from disappearing into the Metaverse… this sounds just kind of buzz wordy…,”
“I currently am unable to see a compelling Metaverse situation or Web 3 sounds like more marketing than reality…,
Speaking of Neuralink, Musk said,
“A neuralink long-term sophisticated neural link that could put you fully in a virtual reality thing.”
Neuralink is a neurotechnology company developing implantable brain–machine interfaces and founded by Elon Musk and others.
The term ‘Metaverse’ was coined in 1992 science fiction novel Snow Crash that talks about a three-dimensional virtual space where humans as avatars interact with each other and software agents.
Back in July, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed his vision for for the company beyond social media by building a maximalist, interconnected set of experiences in the form of a sci-fi world called as the Metaverse.
