OYO, known for its couple-friendly policies, has made a significant change to its check-in rules for unmarried couples in Meerut. As of this year, unmarried couples may no longer be allowed to check in together at OYO-partnered hotels in the city, according to a report by PTI.
Under OYO’s revised policy, partner hotels have been given the discretion to accept or decline bookings from couples, based on their own judgment and consideration of local social norms. Additionally, couples will be required to provide valid proof of their relationship at check-in, regardless of whether they booked online or offline.
Pawas Sharma, Region Head of OYO North India, emphasized the company’s dedication to maintaining a safe and responsible hospitality environment. According to Sharma, “OYO is committed to upholding safe and responsible hospitality practices. While we respect individual freedoms and personal liberty, we also recognise our responsibility to listen to and work with the law enforcement and civil society groups in the micro markets we operate in.”
OYO may consider expanding its revised check-in policy to more cities, based on feedback from the ground, as reported by PTI. This initiative is part of OYO’s broader effort to revamp its image and provide a safe experience for a diverse range of travelers, including families, students, business travelers, religious travelers, and solo travelers.
Region Head of OYO North India, has reassured that the company will keep a close eye on its revised check-in policy, stating “We will continue to review this policy and its impact periodically.”
As part of its efforts to ensure safe hospitality, OYO has launched a nationwide initiative in collaboration with the police and hotel partners. The company is taking a strong stance against hotels that promote immoral activities, adding them to a blacklist, and also taking action against unauthorized hotels that misuse the OYO brand.
