Amaal Mallik Says He’s Owed ₹25 Lakh, Opens Up About Spending Habits and Strained Parental Ties

Amaal Mallik opens up about being owed ₹25 lakh, his generous spending habits, and how financial differences strained his bond with his mother.

  • Amaal Mallik says he’s owed ₹25 lakh by big producers but doesn’t stress over it due to his financial success.
  • He admits to generous spending habits, including ₹20k dinners and ₹1 lakh days, which often upset his mother.
  • Amaal’s financial mindset differs from his parents, especially his mother, leading to past tensions in their relationship.

Amaal Mallik, a successful composer, has been in the news recently for reasons beyond his music. In a podcast appearance, he discussed his career and financial management, revealing spending habits that reportedly strained his already tense relationship with his mother. Amaal had previously made headlines when he announced his decision to estrange himself from his parents, a decision he later retracted.

Amaal Mallik discussed his approach to finances in a conversation with Siddharth Kannan. He assured that he was a skilled student of accounts in school and now has full control over his money, though his mother disagrees with his spending habits.

“My mother has a very different relationship with money. She will never understand why the dinner bill is 20k or why I suddenly spent a lakh rupees in a single day. I am very transparent with my dad about what I spend, but I have to be careful around my mother, because she gets upset about my expenses.”

Amaal Mallik explained that his mindset regarding money is very different from his mother’s. He doesn’t like to limit himself when certain situations present themselves. “Sometimes you are going to a party after a show, or I am taking my people out, so I spend a good amount. I am a very generous person in that sense; I don’t feel like I have to hold on to a lot of money. For me, it’s just a means to an end.”

Amaal said he understands his mother’s perspective because she and her father have experienced severe poverty. He recalled his father’s struggles in his career as a composer, a situation he intends to make up for. “She was down to the last ₹500,” he said.

Amaal Mallik mentioned that he has forgone several payments in his career because he doesn’t prioritize money. He discussed how some big producers fail to pay the amounts they promise. “There are a lot of big producers who won’t clear almost 40% of your payment, but smaller producers who don’t even have budgets don’t do this. As long as there is intent, I don’t mind working with them.”

Amaal said he’s owed around ₹25 lakh in total, but doesn’t consider it a significant issue because of his success. “I am owed around ₹25 lakh in total, but it doesn’t matter because God has been kind, and you can make this in one night and one performance,” said Amaal.
