As per the decision laid down by Dubai RTA (Roads and Transportation Authority), Uber and Careem have discontinued cheap ride option in Dubai.
In an e-mail, Careem said that Careem Go – a pilot project that was launched in 2017 – “is now coming to an end.”
“As of today, this option will no longer be available in Dubai,” the e-mail said.

Speaking to reporters last week, Bassel Al Nahlaoui, the managing director of Careem Gulf and Pakistan, said that the programme was launched by RTA “to study the market” and that it had always had “an expiration date.”

In a separate statement, Uber said that its Uber X offering – described ‘as a private ride at an everyday price’ – “will be discontinued as per the RTA’s decision”.
“All other ride options, including select, black and XL, are still available at the tap of a button,” the statement said.
Uber agreed to purchase Careem for $3.1 billion in March 2019.
For Careem, the announcement comes just days after the firm launched Hala, a joint venture with the RTA that allows users to book a Dubai taxi through the Careem app.
