Huawei Watch series has always had amazing sales and a good reputation. As the first smartwatch with HarmonyOS, Huawei Watch3 has attracted a lot of anticipation from smartwatch enthusiasts even before its launch.

So how is the Huawei Watch 3 functional experience and is it worth buying? Keep reading, this review will tell you all.

Design

A good appearance often means a good first impression. The design of the Huawei Watch 3 not only retains the strengths of the Huawei Watch series but has also been significantly optimized. Huawei Watch 3 adopts a circular dial design as a whole, which is more in line with our traditional perception of a “watch”. The surface is covered by a large-curvature 3D glass, which is full of look and feel, and the case is made of 316L stainless steel, cold-forged and hardened with PVD coating to resist the smallest of daily abrasions and sweat corrosion. The screen is beautiful and practical, with high definition.

The dial of the Huawei Watch 3 weighs about 54 grams, which is not too thin, but not too bulky either. The back case is made of ceramic, which is smooth and delicate, with a warm and comfortable touch. Like the predecessor, the strap on this smartwatch is removable. Huawei offers a wide range of materials and styles of straps to choose from. Compared to its predecessor, the Huawei Watch 3 features a 3D rotating crown on the upper right side, with a densely toothed ring that allows interactive operations such as pressing to open/exit function screens, double-tapping to bring up multitasking and rotating to swipe/zoom in/out.

The rotating crown is positioned on the upper right-hand side so that it does not hit the back of the hand when the user moves the wrist at a wide-angle, making it more comfortable to use. The vibration of the rotating crown with its motor allows the user’s fingers to feel the same sensation as when the crown of a high-end mechanical watch is turned. Overall, the Huawei Watch 3 basically continues the style of its predecessor, but it is better than its predecessor in detail.

Functions

The biggest highlight of the Huawei Watch 3 is that it comes with Huawei’s self-developed HarmonyOS, a freer, smoother and smarter operating system for the Internet of Everything. As a standalone smart device on the wrist, Huawei Watch 3 is equipped with HarmonyOS and eSIM, creating a new experience in wrist interaction with superb interconnection and collaboration capabilities. Users can control their mobile phones to take photos and videos through Huawei Watch, as well as use the watch to play video calls on their phones or smart screens, set sporting event alerts and stream live media to the big screen, and also control smart home appliances compatible with HarmonyOS. Huawei Watch 3 also has functions such as watch car search, real-time translation, voice notes, and offline payment.

In addition to these smart functions, maintaining the advantages of the Huawei Watch series, Huawei Watch 3 is an all-rounder in terms of health management and sports logging. The Huawei smartwatch not only supports sleep monitoring, body temperature detection, real-time heart rate monitoring, continuous blood oxygen saturation measurement but also enables preliminary screening of respiratory infections and supports minimally invasive blood glucose testing. The Huawei Watch 3 can also monitor your daily activity status, including steps, calories, hours of activity, mid-to-high intensity exercise time, etc., forming a fitness record circle, allowing you to see your daily exercise volume. Huawei Watch 3 supports more than 100 types of exercise monitoring, including professional sports modes, outdoor sports, indoor sports, and some custom sports. It can be said that as long as you are exercising, it can monitor and record your exercise. In addition, through Huawei Health, you can also access more than 200 online exercise courses and training videos. In my opinion, the only disadvantage of the Huawei Watch 3 is that it cannot respond to notifications received.

Verdict

In general, as the first smartwatch equipped with HarmonyOS, is a pleasant surprise in terms of its competition. This smartwatch has not only made progress in design and functions but also compares favourably with the latest products from brands such as Apple and Samsung.
