Nintendo announces Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream for Nintendo Switch, launching April 16

Nintendo confirms the return of the Tomodachi Life franchise after more than a decade, with a new title set to launch globally on April 16, 2026.

Nintendo has officially announced Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, the newest installment in the Tomodachi Life franchise, with a confirmed release date of April 16, 2026 for Nintendo Switch. The game will also be playable on Nintendo Switch 2.

The title marks the return of the franchise after more than 10 years. Players will be able to create Mii characters inspired by family members, friends, or original designs and place them on an island designed around interactive and unpredictable daily activities.

According to the game’s description, players can customize Mii behavior and interactions across daily life scenarios.

The company, in its official blog post, said, “players can create Mii characters based on family, friends, and anyone they can imagine, and have them inhabit a vibrant, eclectic island where almost anything can happen.”

A central feature of the game is expanded Mii customization. Players can create characters using either a guided questionnaire or a manual creation process. Customization options include facial features, hairstyles, voice, gender, height, body type, and personality traits such as energy levels and individuality. Enhanced face paint options allow for more detailed visual expression.

The game also introduces expanded social mechanics, allowing players to assign up to eight Mii characters as roommates, creating shared living environments and emergent social dynamics.

Island locations include functional and interactive spaces such as food centers, clothing stores, home renovation services, marketplaces, island news stations, and photo studios.

Nintendo also introduced the Palette House Workshop feature, which enables players to design custom content for the island, including pets, drinks, Mii television shows, clothing, and original in-game items.
