Following reports three months ago that Google was in advanced discussions to acquire a 22.5-acre plot in Navi Mumbai’s Juinagar, the tech giant is now poised to establish its inaugural captive data centre in India, with a significant investment of INR 850 Cr.
In addition to its plans for a captive data centre, Google has reportedly secured multiple leases for space at colocation data centres in Navi Mumbai and Noida. This move aligns with the growing trend of major tech companies establishing a presence in India to meet the increasing demand for cloud services, driven by the country’s rapid digital transformation and post-pandemic growth.
Furthermore, the demand has been driven by a combination of factors, including the increasing number of businesses transitioning to online platforms, rising data consumption, the rollout of 5G networks, and data localization requirements, all of which have contributed to a surge in demand for data centre capacity in India.
