The trailer was revealed at Gamescom 2024 which was held this week by 2K and Hangar 13. Mafia: The Old Country was the final announcement at the grand video game event, and it is being considered as the most exciting announcement – expected to be a contender to Grand Theft Auto VI.

“Across the first three entries in the Mafia franchise, we introduced players to the world of the Mafia through brutal stories set in different eras. In Mafia: The Old Country, we’re going back to the roots of what fans love about the franchise, crafting a deep, linear narrative with that classic mob movie feeling, visiting a stunning new setting, and delivering it all in a tight, focused package perfect for fans of immersive experiences,” said Nick Baynes, President of Hangar 13.

It is worth noting that all previous Mafia games were set in America in the fictional cities of Lost Heaven, Empire Bay, and New Bordeaux. According to Baynes, the game is set in 1900s Sicily and explores the origins of the Italian mafia.

The teaser trailer of Mafia: The Old Country shows a beautiful classic house in an Italian town, a man pouring a drink, and a shotgun kept on a table with bullets on the side – creating a worthy essence of the Mafia game series for the fans. And a husky male voice in the background says “This thing of ours, it’s a brotherhood. Treachery and deceit do not exist among us. Do you wish to commit yourself, your life, to this family?”

According to Baynes, the Hangar 13 will reveal more details about Mafia: The Old Country in December, possibly at The Game Awards.

Mafia: The Old Country is developed by Hangar 13 based in Novato, California, the same studio that developed the last installment Mafia 3.

The first two installments Mafia and Mafia 2 were developed by Illusion Softworks which was renamed to ‘2K Czech‘, and later merged with Hangar 13 in 2017.

The Mafia franchise debuted in 2002 with the groundbreaking game Mafia and has achieved remarkable success with over 34 million copies sold across console and PC platforms. Renowned for its engaging narratives, exceptional performances, and meticulous attention to detail in recreating period-specific settings, the series has garnered widespread critical acclaim and a loyal fan base. With the entire franchise currently on sale on Steam until September 2, now is an ideal opportunity to explore or revisit this beloved and critically acclaimed series.
