Written and directed by James Gunn—best known for his quirky Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy for Marvel—the film introduces David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel. Gunn, who took over as co-head of DC Studios alongside producer Peter Safran in 2022, has been tasked with revitalizing the franchise across both film and television.

This Superman installment is expected to lay the groundwork for upcoming DC projects, including a Supergirl movie slated for next summer, as well as future entries in the Batman and Wonder Woman series.

On similar lines, “The DC vision is clear, the momentum is real, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead,” said Warner Bros Discovery Chief Executive David Zaslav in a press statement.

“The domestic number is great. You can’t beat a top three opening of the year,” said Jeff Bock, senior box office analyst at Exhibitor Relations Co.
