India’s SonyLIV Launches in the Middle East

The Indian entertainment industry which is already running on its top gear is now intensifying its foray by entering into the Middle East market.

Yet another big story paving way forward to building a joint India-Middle East ecosystem i.e. the launch of India’s VOD (Video on Demand) platform SonyLIV in the Middle East.

Launched in 2013, as the first Indian player to clutch upon the idea of OTT, SonyLIV has crossed 100 million app downloads on its Android app and claims to have 70 million active monthly users.

SonyLIV has already made available over 70 Indian shows and 1,500 movies in the majority of the Middle East regions including UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. This includes: The Kapil Sharma Show, Super Dancer, Ladies Special and Patiala Babes.

“With a bustling young population who are essentially digital first consumers, the Middle East serves as a highly lucrative market for content creators like us to spiral a growth. With increased adoption of smartphones and advanced services, there is a huge potential for Indian content which is extremely popular and appeals to viewers globally.”
