Remedy is the name behind the popular award-winning video game franchises including Max Payne, Alan Wake, Control, and Quantum Break among others.

The partnership aims to produce and develop film and TV adaptations of Alan Wake and Control video games. Besides this, Annapurna will also work with Remedy as a co-production and co-financing partner for the upcoming game Control 2.

“At Remedy, our primary focus continues to be what we do best – crafting industry-defining video games that have earned us global recognition. Now, the time is right to expand the reach of Remedy’s beloved franchises to an even broader global audience through film, television, and more. In Annapurna, we have found an outstanding partner who shares our ambition and passion for immersive storytelling. We are excited to see them bring the universes and characters we have created to life in new mediums, thanks to this unique deal.” commented Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment.

A week prior to the partnership, ex-Epic Games executive Hector Sanchez rejoined Annapurna as President of Interactive and New Media.

“This deal with Remedy isn’t just about adapting great games – it’s about breaking new ground in how companies can collaborate. By backing Remedy’s move toward self-publishing, we’re putting our faith in their vision,” said Sanchez in the press release

“We know from experience that Remedy is a first-class games development partner, and we’re excited to share their work with an even wider audience by bringing the Control and Alan Wake universes to film, television and beyond.” Sanchez added

“The way we tell stories is changing,” said Megan Ellison, founder & CEO of Annapurna Pictures “Today people fall in love with characters and universes, not formats, and we’re excited to leverage Remedy’s beloved, immersive narratives in these new mediums.”

Remedy Entertainment has a long record of working with various video game publishers. Last year, Remedy Entertainment partnered with Epic Games to publish Alan Wake 2, which became Remedy’s fastest-selling game, and won multiple Game of the Year Awards.

In 2003, Remedy co-developed Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne with Rockstar Games, and in 2004, the company sold the Max Payne franchise’s rights to Rockstar Games’ parent Take-Two Interactive who developed Max Payne 3 and released it in 2012. In 2022, Remedy announced that it has partnered with Rockstar Games to develop the remakes of the first two games of Max Payne for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox S and X.
